Art at Saint Edmund's

Our aim for Art at Saint Edmund's is to give children the opportunity to experiment, invent and create their skills and techniques, as well as to develop a clear knowledge and understanding of several artists, crafters, designers, and architects.

Throughout the years at Saint Edmund's, children will be given the chance to draw, paint, create patterns, collage and create Art in 3D. They will learn to explore using colour, different tools and materials. Each piece of artwork they create will go through a planning, creating and evaluating stage to ensure children have the chance to review, improve and master their skill and technique.

As a school, we aim to provide opportunities for children to collaborate their learning in Art together as a school and with outside agencies for further opportunities.

Design and Technology at Saint Edmund's

Our aim for Design and Technology at Saint Edmund's is to give the children the opportunity to develop their creative, technical and practical skills and technique for the outside world.

Children will be given opportunity to learn how to cook in a healthy school where nutrition is key and will learn what it is to have a balanced diet. They will learn how to prepare and cook a variety of dishes with an understanding of where the food came from.

Throughout the years at Saint Edmund's, children will be given the chance to go through a process with their Design and Technology learning that replicates that of a practical career. Children will be given a brief for their product before going through a process of designing, making and evaluating.

Children will be given the opportunity to cut, shape, join and finish structures as well as use a range of materials. Further to this, children will be given a chance to use mechanisms, a few examples of these are levers, axles, gears and linkages. Additionally, as part of a broad and balanced curriculum, children will be able to link their science knowledge and use electrical systems and their computing knowledge to program and control their products as part of their design and technology journey.

As a school, we aim to provide opportunities for children to collaborate their learning in Design and Technology together as a school and with outside agencies for further opportunities.
