World Science Day
On Tuesday 10th November, we marked World Science Day and the classes took part in many STEM investigations. For all of the classes, science was the subject many of the children had enjoyed most this week. There was ice-melting in Giraffe, testing out different materials to make the best umbrella in Zebra, investigating the best way to build a bridge for the Gingerbread Man to cross in Chameleon; Gazelle tried to purify dirty water, Panda explored how ‘germs’ react to soap and Lion and Tiger classes tried to map out a scaled down version of the planets on the school field.
Harvest 2020
For our Harvest celebration this year, we gave thanks for all the good things we have in our life. We thought about those in our community who are struggling at this time for food and donated our Harvest goods to Calne Foodbank. Fr Vincent joined us for a liturgy on Friday and blessed the food and provisions before David and James delivered them to the foodbank on Monday evening with the help of their mummies. We offer our thanks to our school community for their contributions and we pray for those who will receive our donations.
Tagtiv8
As a school, we are always looking for ways we can increase and embed opportunities for learning and Tagtiv8 proved that this is one of the ways to go! Each class spent time with Mr Llewelyn on Monday 19th October, playing active games that were centred in a particular area of the curriculum. This ranged from phonics, spelling and vocabulary-building to number lines, multiplication and even adding up tags to find angles. What really impressed me was how well the children used other skills such as negotiation, cooperation and problem-solving too. Tagtiv8 operate across the country and visit lots of schools and had this to say about our school:
‘It was a genuine delight to work and play with you, your colleagues and children. Learning - and training - outdoors in the sunshine is always a pleasure, but you took things to a new level. Yes, we were restricted in our movements, but the welcome was incredible. I loved watching the rapport between staff and children alike. A few words that come to mind about your children: curious, polite, helpful, inquisitive, co-operative, caring, quirky, creative...’
Wellbeing Week
Throughout the week beginning 12th October 2020, the whole school focused on their physical and mental wellbeing. We worked with resources from Young Minds to consider what makes us and other people happy. We also took part in a form of physical activity each day, which included competing in the Wiltshire Virtual School Games and learning to skip with Skippy John. Getting out and about to conduct a broad range of activities across the curriculum was great fun!
